Electric car production will be launched in the Kaliningrad SEZ
Russian holding Avtotor plans to start producing electric cars at its plant in Kaliningrad in 2023. Valery Gorbunov, chairman of the company's board of directors, said Friday.
Avtotor is working on the project in cooperation with partners, including KIA and Hyundai. For this purpose, three groups have been created, each of which must present a project. The electric cars, according to him, will be aimed at the sedentary population groups, low-income people and the youth.
The company also plans to master the production of hydrogen-fueled cars until 2028, the Chairman added. The company has created an engineering center, the concept and structure of the design implementation center has been approved, which will deal with the design development and production of new types of products, he said.
Avtotor company was founded in 1994 in Kaliningrad and was the first in Russia to start producing foreign brands of cars, including BMW, KIA, Hyundai. The total production volume has now exceeded 2 million cars. The production capacity is 350 000 cars per year.
