«Silk Road» turned west to the Kaliningrad Region.
The cargo traffic map has got a new point of attraction. The new-opened transit hub near Kaliningrad will interconnect the West and the East. So the infrastructure complex’ name is «East-West».
There is no opportunity of straight transporting of cargo without stopover: there is different width of the railway track in Russia and Europe. But the transshipment will be quick here. It’s planning to pass up to half a million containers. Moreover, not only to Russia, but from it too. Next it’s a transit hub that can become one of the main piece of the «New Silk Road».
"We have built a new route. This is Kaliningrad - Europe, which comes from China, from Asian countries, including using ferries. But the fastest and highest-quality element here is a quick overload from one track to another, and immediately the container goes to the consumer," said the head of Russian Railways Oleg Belozerov.
