HISTORY AND DEMOGRAPHY
The history of the Kaliningrad region is peculiar and unique.
The area has been formed as a result of the victory of the
Soviet Union over Nazi Germany. By the decision of the
Potsdam Conference in 1945, one third of the territory of the
former East Prussia with the city of Koenigsberg became part
of the USSR. On April 7, 1946, the Presidium of the Supreme
Soviet of the USSR signed the order “Of the formation of the
Konigsberg region as part of the RSFSR,” and on July 4 its
administrative center was renamed to Kaliningrad, and the
region itself to Kaliningrad.

●  The Curonian Spit is sandy peninsula in Lithuania and Russia of 98 km length and from 0.4 to 3.8 km width. Dunes up to 70 m high are characteristic for spit mostly covered by forests (pine, black alder mixed with oak, linden, elm). Lagoon’s length is 93 km and width is 17.3 km, depth - up to 7 m. The Neman River flows into lagoon. During the winter it freezes.

The main forest-forming species are spruce and pine. Also common are birch, maples, oaks, hornbeam, linden. In the southeastern part of the region is the legendary Rominten (or Red Forest) - a huge forest area of 360 km2. TOURISM
Modern Kaliningrad is a dynamically developing commercial and
industrial center of the westernmost Russian region.
There are a lot of reasons to visit the most western region of Russia.
There are a lot of reasons to visit the most western region of Russia.
It is a unique region. German architecture, European order connected here with Russian welcome and hospitality.

Kaliningrad is called Russian Europe and, probably, this is not far from the truth. Frankly speaking Kaliningrad is such Europe in which a guest from Russia feels himself completely comfortable. And this is the main "trick" of the Kaliningrad region.

But there are also other reasons: the Baltic Sea, harsh and beautiful, healing air, amber (on the Baltic coast you can pick up a whole collection of "sun stone" just walking along the beach), high dunes of the Curonian Spit, incredibly delicious smoked eel ...

● Arriving in Kaliningrad, you will discover many new and unknown things for yourself. And undoubtedly fall in love with beautiful cities, romantic nature and feel generosity and responsiveness of people living here.
